New Media Labs was recently endorsed by Microsoft, as the development partner to help Aurecon redevelop their new suite of Emergency Management Services software products. The software covers: call-taking; dispatching; incident forecasting; and in-ambulance, in-hospital as well as hand-held security service devices – a total of 28 software products!
But how is Emergency Services related to New Media? Well, initially, I wasn’t sure myself, but given that NML’s core verticals are Niche Social Networks, Mashups (and Mapping in general) and Mobile (specifically mobile and GPS), the following features leave me with no doubt that it fits nicely into the business model:
· The GO and Start applications are Silverlight enabled Rich Internet Applications.
· We will be streaming CCTV camera footage via Silverlight.
· Controlling the CCTV cameras through web services from the Silverlight applications.
· The control centre will be controlled through the multi-touch Silverlight application – minority report style.
· The whole system runs on ESRI silverlight maps – the leader in mapping technology (mashup elements)
· We will be utilizing the GEO Spatial capabilities of SQL Server and the ESRI Server web services.
· GeoRSS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georss) and FeedSync (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Sharing_Extensions) drive the messaging and syndication of the system.
· This system is all about the collaborative web (http://www.strongangel3.net/)
· The web is the platform
Certainly enough New Media to warrant NML involvement. That and we’re having a lot of fun developing it with a good bunch of engineers at Aurecon.
